John Huston, co-founder of Step-One, pursued his undergraduate and graduate work in Animal Science from Mississippi State University. That prepared him for international work in 2006, when he began investigating the potential for sustainable agriculture projects in Rwanda in cooperation with the Mountain Gorilla Veterinary Project (MGVP). Since that time, he has lived for two years in Rwanda where he taught at an agricultural college and continued developing project ideas for MGVP in not only Rwanda but also Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. John has worked for other organizations such as Project Rwanda and the Imbabazi “home for hope”. It was his collaboration with Project Rwanda that introduced him to Lisa Bidelspach. Once this friendship was formed, there was no turning back and Step-One was born. John continues to consult with MGVP in the development of research projects regarding ecosystem health and zoonotic disease. John is also actively involved with the wildlife conservation efforts of the Houston Zoo on projects in Botswana and Zimbabwe.
